EU citizens traveling to Greece can use their ID or passport to enter the country. Most neighboring countries, such as Albania, Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Turkey, do not participate in the Schengen Agreement, meaning travellers will likely arrive at a Greek airport.
The European Union has announced the introduction of a new visa waiver known as ETIAS, which will allow non-EU nationals to travel to Greece without a visa. The policy is expected to come into force in 2025and will replace the current travel authorisation system. ETIAS is connected to your passport information, so you don't need to carry a separate paper permit when entering the EU.
Non-Europeans not eligible for the ETIAS visa waiver will be asked to present the following documents when crossing an external Schengen Area border to reach Greece:
